The Cockpit Cafe

We’re a small local business located at Tangmere Aviation Museum in Chichester. Under the new ownership of the cafe,
we want to re-brand the cafe to suit our current target audience, war plane enthusiasts and RAF veterans, whilst expanding
our clientele so that we become more appealing to all ages.
This will help bring more families into the cafe and create more positive exposure for the museum as well. As this is a local business we want to reach out to our community and give them a place to enjoy.

The brief

To design a logotype that complements the existing Tangmere Aviation Museum logo while establishing a distinct brand identity for The rebranding of their Cafe. The re-brand was to honor
the museum’s heritage, with a particular focus on the iconic Spitfire plane, and be applied across various print and digital mediums.

Rationale

The re-branding of the Cafe became centered around creating a logotype that seamlessly
integrates with the Tangmere Aviation Museum’s identity. This is where the name Cockpit became
a popular choice for the client. Drawing inspiration from the museum’s rich aviation history, particularly the Spitfire plane, the design aimed to evoke a sense of heritage and nostalgia while ensuring a modern and versatile aesthetic suitable for the cafe environment.

The logotype was crafted to reflect both the elegance and strength associated with aviation.
The typography was chosen to convey a sense of flight and freedom, with subtle nods to vintage aviation posters. The integration of an abstract Spitfire silhouette served as a focal element, tying the cafe’s identity back to the museum’s heritage.

Resolution

The Cockpit Cafe’s new logotype successfully bridges the historical significance of the Tangmere Aviation Museum with a fresh, contemporary brand identity. The re-brand has been well-received, enhancing the cafe’s visibility and creating a unified visual presence that honors the museum’s legacy while appealing to a broad audience.

The re-branding of The Cockpit Cafe has not only elevated the cafe’s image but has also strengthened its connection to the museum’s overall visitor experience. The new logotype
and branding elements have become integral to the cafe’s identity, reflecting the rich aviation
history in every touchpoint.
